Introduction
A small inconsistent spur of bone on the body of the sphenoid bone, posterolateral to & sometimes continuous with the tuberculum sellae.
It is about the middle clinoid process (or point where it occurs) that the internal carotid artery makes a 180 degree turn, changing direction from anterior to posterior to join the circle of Willis.
