Etiology
- deficiency in lecithin-cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT)
Pathology
- corneal opacities
- premature atherosclerosis
- a lack of LCAT activity would be expected to lead to accumulation of free cholesterol in the tissues
Genetics
- autosomal recessive
- associated with defects in LCAT
