Epidemiology
- commonly found in normal human skin
Pathology
- associated with Merkel cell carcinoma
- integrates at a single site in the human genome at chromosome 3p14 within the PTPRG locus
- expression of a mutated T antigen with oncogenic activity, necessary for survival & proliferation of Merkel cell carcinoma cell lines
