Introduction
Small multipolar neuron with short branching dendrites Scattered throughout different layers of the cerebral cortex. They send axons up to layer 1 where the axons arborize The axonal arbors spread across multiple cortical columns in layer 1 to synapse with distal tuft dendrites of pyramidal cells
Function
- cortical dampening mechanism
History
- 1st described in 1888 by Giovanni Martinotti, an Italian physician
