Equation used in the MDRD study to estimate GFR
Principle
GFR = serum creatinine [exp 1.154] x age [exp -2.03] x Kf* ,
* Kf = 0.742 if female, 1.212 if black
Notes
- most useful when eGFR is 15-60 mL/min/1.73 m2
- underestimates GFR when GFR > 60 mL/min/1.73 m2
- less accurate is populations with normal or near normal GFR, extremes of age or weight, amputees, pregnancy, cirrhosis
