Pathology

• large cells
• grows faster than adenocarcinoma
• brain metastases (28%)

Clinical manifestations

• clubbing
• hypertrophic pulmonary osteoarthropathy

Laboratory

• serum calcium: hypercalcemia (13%)
• increased secretion of hCG, LH & FSH may occur
  • serum chorionic gonadotropin
  • serum luteining hormone
  • serum follicle-stimulating hormone

Radiology

• chest X-ray
  • large masses
  • cavitation (20-25%)

Management

• surgery
• response to radiation & chemotherapy is poor
