Epidemiology
~60% of childhood cases
Microscopic pathology
- small round/spindle shaped undifferentiated cells mixed with variable numbers of round, strap or tadpole shaped eosinophilic rhabdomyoblasts in myxoid stroma
Immunophenotype
desmin + muscle actin + myogenin and MyoD1 sensitive and specific markers Botryoid and spindle cell variants have better prognosis; anaplastic variant has poor survival rate.
