Microscopic pathology
- tumor composed of different tissue types originating from ectoderm, endoderm & mesoderm
- subclassification:
- mature teratoma
- composed of fully differentiated tissues
- mitoses absent or rare.
- immature teratoma
- composed of incompletely differentiated tissues sometimes resembling fetal tissue
- mitoses typically present.
- teratoma with malignant transformation
- contains malignant components such as sarcoma, squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma
- mature teratoma
