Pathology

• ~75 - 85% arise in parotid gland
• ~5 - 10% arise in submandibular gland
• ~10% arise in minor salivary glands

Microscopic pathology

• wide variety of cell types
  • inner & outer tubular cells
  • squamous cells
  • myxochondroid cells w/wo lacunar spaces
  • hyaline cells
  • spindle cells

Clinical manifestations

• painless persistent swelling
• any age group, most common adults 3rd to 5th decades
• facial nerve involvement uncharacteristic
