Function
- protein phosphatase
- role in regulation of cell cycle progression (putative)
- selectively associates with integrin linked kinase (ILK), to modulate cell adhesion & growth factor signaling
- inhibits ILK-GSK3B signaling axis
- role in inhibiting oncogenic transformation (putative)
- interacts with ILK
- specific association with ILK is independent of catalytic activity of either
phosphoprotein + H2O <--> protein + phosphate
Cofactor: binds Mn+2 per subunit
Inhibition:
- inhibited rather than stimulated by Mg+2
- binds 2 Mg+2 per subunit
Structure
Compartment
Expression
- widely expressed
- highest levels expressed in striated muscle
- much lower levels evident in various smooth muscle tissues
- inhibited rather than stimulated by Mg+2
