Function
- Ca+2 channel
- may act as a spontaneously active, Ca+2-permeable plasma membrane channel
- mediates cation influx in HEK293 cells
- may play a role in suppression of metastasis
Structure
- belongs to the transient receptor family, LTrpC subfamily
Compartment
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=4
Expression
- highly expressed in benign melanocytic nevi
- expressed in melanocytes & pigmented metastatic melanoma cell lines
- in melanocytes expression appears to be regulated at the level of transcription & mRNA processing
- up-regulated by hexamethylene bisacetamide (HBMA)
Pathology
- diffusely expressed in various in situ melanomas, but not detected in melanoma metastases
