Function

• inhibits E-box-mediated binding & transactivation of bHLH factors
• inhibitory effect is similar to that of ID proteins
• inhibits the formation of TCF3 & MYOD1 homo- & heterodimers
• lacks DNA binding activity
• seems to play a role in the inhibition of myogenesis (putative)
• forms inactive heterodimeric complexes with TCF3

Structure

• both the bHLH region & the C-terminal portion are essential for inhibitory function (putative)
• contains 1 basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) domain
