Function
- component of the transcription machinery of RNA polymerase 2
- role in transcriptional activation
- TFIIA in a complex with TBP mediates transcriptional activity
- TFIIA facilitates binding of TFIID to the TATA box, generating the TFIID/TFIIA (DA) complex
Structure
- TFIIA is a heterodimer of the large unprocessed subunit 1 & a small subunit gamma
- originally believed to be a heterotrimer of an alpha (p35), a beta (p19) & a gamma subunit (p12)
More general terms
- general transcription factor (basal transcription factor, transcription initiation factor)
- multisubunit protein
