• TFIIA in a complex with TBP mediates transcriptional activity
• TFIIA facilitates binding of TFIID to the TATA box, generating the TFIID/TFIIA (DA) complex

Structure

• TFIIA is a heterodimer of the large unprocessed subunit 1 & a small subunit gamma
• originally believed to be a heterotrimer of an alpha (p35), a beta (p19) & a gamma subunit (p12)
