Function
- component of the cytoskeleton of highly motile cells
- invagination of large pieces of plasma membrane
- protrusions of plasma membrane involved in cell locomotion
- binds actin
Structure
- belongs to the WD repeat coronin family
- contains 5 WD repeats
Compartment
- cytoplasm, cytoskeleton, cytoplasmic vesicle, phagosome
- in non-infected macrophages, associated with the cortical microtubule network
Expression
- expressed in brain, thymus, spleen, bone marrow, lymph node > lung, GI tract
Pathology
- in mycobacteria-infected macrophages
- becomes progressively relocalized (from microtule network) & retained around the mycobacterial phagosomes
- retention on the phagosomal membrane prevents fusion between phagosomes & lysosomes
