Function
- binds double-stranded RNA (sequence-independent) & tubulin
- specific positioning of mRNAs at given sites in the cell by cross-linking cytoskeletal & RNA components, & in stimulating their translation at the site
- binds with low affinity single-stranded RNA or DNA homopolymers
- interacts with CASC3 (RNA-dependent)
- one of the DRDB could be involved in rER binding
- C-terminal contains the tubulin binding domain
Compartment
- endoplasmic reticulum
- localizes exclusively with the rough reticulum endoplasmic (rER)
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=2
Expression
- widely expressed
- expressed in brain, pancreas, heart, skeletal muscles, liver, lung, kidney, placenta
Pathology
- interacts with influenza virus nonstructural protein NS
