Function
- mitochondrial solute carriers shuttle metabolites, nucleotides, & cofactors through the mitochondrial inner membrane
- specifically mediates the transport of S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) into the mitochondria
- strongly inhibited by tannic acid & bromocresol Purple
Structure
- belongs to the mitochondrial carrier family
- contains 3 solcar repeats
Compartment
mitochondrial inner membrane
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=3
Expression
- widely expressed
- highly expressed in testis,
- moderate expression in brain, heart, kidney, lung, skeletal muscle, pancreas, small intestine & liver
- low expression in spleen
