Introduction

A potential recorded from electrodes placed on the scalp resulting from subject recognition of multiple target stimuli presented among a predominance of distracting stimuli. The signal emerges from background noise when averaged from multiple target stimuli. The potential occurs about 300 milliseconds after the target stimulus & is dependent upon recognition of the target stimulus. The P300 shows delay & deterioration in patients with dementia.
