• role in overall degradation of proteins in lysosomes
• hydrolysis of proteins
• aminopeptidase (notably, cleaving Arg-|-Xaa bonds) & endopeptidase activity

Structure

• composed of a mini chain & a large chain large chain may be split into heavy & light chain all chains are held together by disulfide bonds
• belongs to the peptidase C1 family
