sulfur granule

Introduction

Hard, yellow grains up to several millimeters in diameter resembling elemental sulfur visible to the naked eye occuring within abscesses resulting from actinomycosis. The sulfur granules contain colonies of Actinomyces. They stain purple with hematoxylin.
