Introduction
A derivative of Haemotoxylon campechianum (logwood).
Characteristics
- stains basic or anionic tissue blue
- staining depends on its oxidation to hematein & mordanting with chrome & iron alums
Uses
- used for nuclear, chromosomal & muscle striation stains & counterstains in histology
- commonly used in hematoxylin & eosin (H&E) stain
