Function
- essential component of the NELF complex
- probably required for NELF complex interaction with the RNA polymerase 2 complex
- interacts with the RNA polymerase 2 complex when it is not phosphorylated by P-TEFb
Structure
- the HDAg-like domain is essential for transcriptional repression, & mediates the interaction with the RNA polymerase 2 complex
- belongs to the NELF-A family
- contains 1 HDAg-like domain
Compartment
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=3
Expression
- ubiquitous
- expressed in heart, brain, placenta, liver, skeletal muscle, kidney & pancreas
- expressed at lower level in adult lung
- expressed in fetal brain, lung, liver & kidney
Pathology
- thought at one time, but later shown not involved in Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome
