• essential component of the NELF complex
• probably required for NELF complex interaction with the RNA polymerase 2 complex
• interacts with the RNA polymerase 2 complex when it is not phosphorylated by P-TEFb

• the HDAg-like domain is essential for transcriptional repression, & mediates the interaction with the RNA polymerase 2 complex
• belongs to the NELF-A family
• contains 1 HDAg-like domain
