• inactive form of PKA1 consists of 2 PKA1 regulatory chains & 2 cAMP protein kinase (catalytic) chains
• activation by cAMP produces two active cAMP protein kinase monomers & a PKA1 regulatory chain dimer that binds 4 cAMP
