Function
- role in the recruitment of key centrosomal proteins to the centrosome
- provides centrosomal microtubule-nucleation activity on the gamma-tubulin ring complexes (gamma-TuRCs)
- role in forming a focused bipolar spindle, which is needed for proper tension generation between sister chromatids
- required for localization of KIZ/PLK1S1, AKAP9 & gamma-tubulin ring complexes (gamma-TuRCs)
- interacts with KIZ/PLK1S1
Structure
- belongs to the CEP72 family
- contains 3 LRR repeats (leucine-rich repeats)
- contains 1 LRRCT domain
Compartment
- cytoplasm, cytoskeleton, centrosome
- localizes to the centrosome & centrosome-surrounding particles throughout the cell cycler
- localization may be microtubule-dependent
