• component of nuclear factor V
• stimulates the transcription of various genes by recognizing & binding to a CCAAT motif in promoters, for example in type 1 collagen, albumin & beta-actin genes
• NF-YB & NF-YC must interact & dimerize for NF-YA association & DNA binding

Structure

• can be divided into 3 domains:
  • weakly conserved A domain
  • highly conserved B domain thought to be involved in subunit interaction & DNA binding
  • Glu-rich C domain belongs to the NFYB/HAP3 subunit family
