Function

• digestive enzyme, protease
• cleaves peptides at the carboxyl side of Tyr, Trp, Phe
• over time, chymotrypsin hydrolyzes other amide bonds,
• particulary those with leucine as the carboxyl donor
• formed after cleavage of zymogen chymotrypsinogen by trypsin
• cleaves C-terminal Phe, Trp, Tyr, Leu, Met

Expression

• synthesized in the pancreas as zymogen chymotrypsinogen,
