Function
- may play role with tastin & bystin in cell adhesion mediating attachment of blastocyst to uterine epithelial cells during embryo implantation
- role in homophilic cell adhesion
- directly binds bystin, & indirectly tastin
Structure
- contains 1 MAGE domain
Compartment
Expression
- strong expression at implantation sites
- found in placenta from the 6th week of pregnancy
- localized in the cytoplasm of the syncytiotrophoblast in the chorionic villi & in endometrial decidual cells at the uteroplacental interface
- after week 10, the level decreases & then disappears from placental villi
- also found in macrophages
