mitochondrial import inner membrane translocase subunit TIM50 (TIMM50, TIM50, PRO1512)
Jump to navigation

Function
- essential component of the TIM23 complex
- has some phosphatase activity in vitro; however may not be relevant in vivo
- isoform 2 may participate in the release of snRNPs & SMN from the Cajal body
- isoform 2 interacts with COIL & snRNPs
Structure
- belongs to the TIM50 family
- contains 1 FCP1 homology domain
- domain does not contain the canonical D-x-D-x-[TV] active site, thus probably does not have phosphatase activity
Compartment
- mitochondrial inner membran
- isoform 2: nucleus speckle nuclear & enriched in speckles with snRNPs
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=2
Expression
- widely expressed
- strong expression in brain, kidney, liver
