paratenic (transport) host

Introduction

Organism in which no development of a parasite occurs. The paratenic host may be required for the parasite to complete its life cycle, such as the successive paratenic fish hosts that harbor the plerocercoid larva of Diphyllobothrium latum, the broad fish tapeworm.
