Epidemiology
- the 2nd & infectious larval stage of cestodes that develop in fish
- plerocercoid are worm-like non-segmented larva with an invaginated scolex at one end, generally encysted in the tissues of fish, reptiles or amphibians
- they may be passed up the food chain or develop into adults after ingestion by a definitive host, including humans
