Function

• activates alternative complement pathway by binding to the short consensus repeat domain 3 (SCR3) of factor H

Structure

• homodimer
• contains 1 Ig-like domain (immunoglobulin-like)

Pathology

• blocking of factor H by LOI protein leads to development of membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (MPGN)
