Function

• may inhibit tumor metastasis
• in vitro, reduces cell motility
• may interact with PAK1 & PAK2
• probably interacts with TARSH

Structure

• belongs to the ABI family
• contains 1 SH3 domain

Compartment

• cytoplasm
• colocalizes with PAK2 at leading edge of cells

Expression

• expressed in heart, lung, liver, pancreas, kidney, placenta > brain, skeletal muscle
• highly expressed in microglia

Pathology

• rare coding variant in ABI3 is associated with late-onset Alzheimer's disease
  • deletion of ABI3 significantly increases beta-amyloid plaques, & decreases microglia clustering around the amyloid plaques
