Function
- wound healing (putative)
- binds phosphatidylinositol lipid headgroup
Structure
- belongs to the epsin family
- contains 1 ENTH domain (epsin N-terminal homology domain)
- contains 2 UIM repeats (ubiquitin-interacting motif repeats)
Compartment
- cytoplasm, perinuclear region, clathrin-coated vesicle, nucleus
- concentrated in the perinuclear region & associated with clathrin-coated vesicles close to the cell periphery
- may shuttle to the nucleus
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=2
Expression
- detected in migrating keratinocytes from wounded skin, but not in differentiating keratinocytes or in normal skin
- induced in keratinocytes, by wounding or contact with collagen
Pathology
- detected in chronic wounds, basal cell carcinoma & ulcerative colitis
