• inhibits transactivation of the Myod family of myogenic factors
• represses myogenesis
• associates with Myod family members & retains them in the cytoplasm by masking their nuclear localization signals
• interferes with DNA-binding activity of Myod family members
• trophoblast and chondrogenic differentiation
