Physiology

• mesectodermal cell layer covering the blastocyst of the embryo
• the trophoblast erodes the uterine mucosa & provides nourishment to the embryo from the mother
• the trophoblast does not enter formation of the embryo itself but contibutes to the formation of the placenta

Laboratory

• invasive trophoblast Ag in serum/plasma
