• an IgG (called leucokinin) binds reversibly to the cell membrane of neutrophils in the blood
• leucokininase on the membrane releases the active peptide tuftsin from the Ig gamma chain
• tuftsin is essential for maximum stimulation of the phagocytic activity of neutrophils
