• zinc metalloprotease
• aminopeptidase activity against neurogranin in vitro
• does not hydrolyze angiotensin-2

Inhibition:

• general metalloprotease inhibitors o-phenanthroline & batimastat
• amastatin (aminopeptidase inhibitor)
• Not inhibited by:
  • 4-(2-aminoethyl)-benzenesulfonyl fluoride (AEBSF) (inhibitor of serine proteases)
  • E-64 (inhibitor of inhibitors of cysteine proteases)
  • TIMPS (tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases)

Kinetic parameters:

• Optimum pH is 8.0

Expression

• expressed in heart & liver > kidney, pancreas & testis.
• expressed in fetal tissues such as kidney, liver, lung & brain
