Introduction
Formed on the surface of intruding pathogenic bacteria as a result of the activation of the complement system
Function
- complement complex that forms osmolytic pore leading to cell lysis (bactericidal)
- multiple copies of complement C9 required for complete formation of the osmolytic pore
- incorporation of C9 inhibited by CD59
