Function
- K+ channel subunit
- modulates channel activity by shifting the threshold & the half-maximal activation to more negative values
- heterodimer with KCNB1
- does not form homomultimers
Structure
- the segment S4 is probably the voltage-sensor & is characterized by a series of positively charged amino acids at every third position
- belongs to the K+ channel family, G (TC 1.A.1.2) subfamily, Kv6.2/KCNG2 sub-subfamily

- highly expressed in heart, liver, skeletal muscle, kidney & pancreas
- detected at low levels in brain, lung & placenta
Notes
- heterodimers with KCNB1 are highly sensitive to inhibition by tetraethylammonium (TEA) & propafenone
