Introduction
Amount of air inspired in one minute.
minute ventilation = tidal volume x respiratory rate
Procedure
- start with a normal minute ventilation of 6-8 L/min
- higher rates may be needed for
- metabolic acidosis
- catabolic states
- increased dead space
- lower rates may be needed for
- implementation of lung protective strategy[2]
