Function
Structure
- the alpha-helical domains I & II are thought to interact with other laminin chains to form a coiled coil structure
- Domain G is globular
- contains 4 laminin EGF-like domains
- contains 5 laminin G-like domains
Compartment
- secreted, extracellular space, extracellular matrix
- basement membrane, major component
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=2
Expression
- in adult, expressed in heart, lung, ovary small & large intestines, placenta, liver > skeletal muscle, kidney, pancreas, testis, prostate, brain
- high expression in fetal lung & kidney
- expression in fetal & newborn tissues is observed in certain mesenchymal cells in tissues such as smooth muscle & dermis
Notes
gene LAMA4 was formerly called LAMA3
