Function

  • regulates activity of the MAP kinase family in response to changes in the cellular environment
  • PYST2-S may act as a negative regulator of PYST2-L (mechanism uncertain)
protein tyrosine phosphate + H2O
               <-->
protein tyrosine + phosphate
phosphoprotein + H2O <--> a protein + phosphate

Structure

Compartment

cytoplasm Alternative promoter:

Pathology

  • expressed at significantly higher levels in malignant hematopoietic cells than in corresponding non-malignant cells

Notes

  • an out-of-frame translation product, PYST2SB, has been experimentally demonstrated to be formed from the alternative promoter

expression of the in-frame product has not yet been shown
