Function
- role in degradation of proteins in lysosomes
- dimer of a heavy & a light chain linked by disulfide bonds
- specificity close to that of papain
- compared to cathepsin B, cathepsin L1 exhibits higher activity toward protein substrates
- little activity on Z-Arg-Arg-NHMec
- no peptidyl-dipeptidase activity
Structure
belongs to the peptidase C1 family
