enthesopathy (enthesitis)

Introduction

An abnormality (generally inflammation) at the site of insertion of muscle tendons & ligaments into bones or joint capsules (enthesis).

Etiology

• adhesive capsulitis
• rotator cuff tendonitis
• plantar fasciitis
• Achilles' tendonitis
• spinal enthesopathy
  • spondyloarthritis
• bursitis

Pathology

• calcification of tendons/ligaments which may be source of pain
