Function

  • triacylglycerol synthesis
  • catalyzes formation of diacylglycerol from 2-monoacylglycerol & fatty acyl-CoA
  • preference toward monoacylglycerols containing unsaturated fatty acids in an order of C18:3 > C18:2 > C18:1 > C18:0.
  • role in absorption of dietary fat in the small intestine by catalyzing resynthesis of triacylglycerol in enterocytes
Acyl-CoA + 2-acylglycerol <--> CoA + diacylglycerol

Cofactor:

  • enhanced by phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylserine & phosphatidic acid

Inhibition:

  • inhibited by oleic acid & sphingosine

Kinetic parameters:

  • KM=45 uM for sn-1-monooleoylglycerol
