Function
- catalyzes the hydrolysis of ATP coupled with the transport of calcium from cytosol into sarcoplasmic reticulum/endoplasmic reticulum lumen, magnesium dependent
- contributes to calcium sequestration in muscular excitation/ muscle contraction
Alternative splicing
6 isoforms; SERCA3A-3F
Expression
- in most tissues
- highest in thymus, trachea, salivary gland, spleen, bone marrow, lymph node, peripheral leukocytes, pancreas & colon
- found in fetal tissue
Pathology
- expression significantly decreased in colon adenocarcinomas compared to normal
Genetics
gene locus: 17p13.3
