Function
- NOH-1S is a voltage-gated proton channel
- mediates H+ currents of resting phagocytes & other tissues
- participates in the regulation of cellular pH
- blocked by Zn+2
- NOH-1L is a pyridine nucleotide-dependent oxidoreductase
- generates superoxide
- conduct H+ ions as part of its electron transport
Structure
- contains 1 ferric oxidoreductase domain, residues 54-545; oxidase activity is potentiated by NOXO1, via residues 397-536
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=3
Expression
- NOH-1L is expressed in colon, uterus, prostate, colon carcinoma, but NOT in peripheral blood leukocytes
- NOH-1S is detected only in colon & colon carcinoma cells
