phosphatidylethanolamine N-methyltransferase; PEAMT (PEMT, PEMPT, PNMT)
Jump to navigation
Jump to search
Function
- catalyzes three sequential methylation of phosphatidylethanolamine by AdoMet, thus producing phosphatidylcholine
- the first methylation is rate-limiting
S-adenosyl-L-methionine + phosphatidylethanolamine = S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine + phosphatidyl-N-methylethanolamine
Structure
- belongs to the PEMT/PEM2 methyltransferase family
Compartment
- endoplasmic reticulum membrane
- mitochondrial membrane
- multi-pass membrane protein (putative)
- found in endoplasmic reticulum where most PEMT activity is generated & in mitochondria
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=2
