• type 1 cytokeratin
• heterotetramer of 2 type 1 & 2 type 2 keratins
• belongs to the intermediate filament family

Expression

• highly expressed in keratinocytes, placenta, colon & spleen
• expressed at lower level in thymus & testis

Pathology

• up-regulated in the mucosa of patients with colorectal cancer
