ATP + D-ribose = ADP + D-ribose 5-phosphate

Inhibition:

• competitively inhibited by phosphonoacetic acid, etidronate, 2-carboxethylphosphonic acid, N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine, N-(phosphonomethyl)iminodiacetic acid & clodronate

• belongs to the carbohydrate kinase pfkB family
