Function
- responsible for provision of inositol required for synthesis of phosphatidylinositol & polyphosphoinositides
- implicated as the pharmacological target for lithium action in brain
- carbohydrate metabolism, inositol phosphate metabolism
- inhibited by Li+
myo-inositol phosphate + H2O <--> myo-inositol + phosphate
Cofactor: Mg+2
Structure
- homodimer
- belongs to the inositol monophosphatase family
Compartment
Pharmacology
- blockade of inositol monophosphatase hydrolysis may underlie anti-manic & anti-depressant actions of Li+
